Seven members of Heart & Soul Community Church‘s Uduk families (Sudanese) are actively engaged in a workshop to advance their English language communication skills. Envisioned 18 months ago at the request of several of these women, the workshop was launched late in May with Carol Babcock providing leadership.
Using a number of young reader’s resources, including Dr. Seuss’s books, the women have been practicing their reading skills, basic English grammar, writing skills, and a session on understanding and completing employment forms. DVD’s have been prepared to enable the women to continue practicing their verbal reading skills between sessions at home.
The program will run through early July and then continue in September.
The RC’s Education and Tutoring Fund supported by Rochester’s Community of the Savior congregation, is providing the funding for resources.
