The Rochester Connection (RC) is a nonprofit ministry of the Genesis Conference of the Free Methodist Church with the goal of networking Kingdom resources within and across denominational lines to facilitate church growth and Christian ministry with a particular focus on, but not limited to, the city of Rochester and its region.
The Rochester Connection is registered with New York as a not-for-profit ministry and is a tax exempt 501(c)3 charity under the Free Methodist Church of North America.
The stated mission of the Rochester Connection is:
(1) To strengthen existing churches through:
Networking leadership Sharing resources Partnering with churches and service agencies Consultation and strategic planning, and
(2) To be catalyst for the formation of ministering communities within the City.
Since early 2007, RC has been engaged with multiple inner city congregations exploring ways of networking ministries and resources to have a greater impact for Christ across their neighborhoods.
Beginning in 2008, The Rochester Connection engaged in:
Teaching and curriculum development with a Biblical Institute at a major Black church in Buffalo; and
Providing leadership training for an African-American denomination in upstate New York seeking to bring renewal and growth to its churches.
Hosted a six-month study of the critical needs of the 14621 zip code area of Rochester, NY and convened a study team of medical, educational, and social work professionals to address these needs and propose long-term grass-roots ministries that could effectively minister to the individuals and families living there; and
Provided leadership for a historic Christian college in its application process and Self Study on the way to being approved by the State of New York to offer an approved Associates of Science degree in Biblical Studies
Between 2008 and 2010, the RC organized, raised funding, and supervised some 150 volunteers from at least 15 congregations in the renovation and facility expansion of a multi-cultural inner city congregation in Rochester’s Avenue D and North Clinton district.
Since 2010, the RC has been engaged in a number of other ministries, including:
Sponsoring the 12-week Faith and Finance seminar (Chalmers Institute) for low and below poverty level families;
Funding for a number of inner city church projects;
Assisting individuals in finding employment through resume writing, interviewing skill training, and completion of job applications;
The relocation and care of a Rochester family that was displaced and had lost virtually all their belongings in an early morning fire that destroyed their rental home; and
Working with a number of Sudanese and Sudanese-American refugee families.
The RC is led by a Board of Directors and an Executive Director.
All gifts to the RC Compassion Fund are tax-deductible and are receipted at the end of the tax year. The Genesis Conference of the Free Methodist Church holds all RC funds. No officer or director of the RC receives compensation from these funds and no fees are removed from donations.
